Finally, someone said this! I also do not identify as Latinx (though I use it in my writing as it is the preferred term for many publications). Puerto Ricans migrants to New York in the 1950s and 1960s like my family members identified as “hispanos,” so I still go by Hispanic to retain that connection to Nuyorican heritage. I don’t really understand why people think it’s any more colonial than Latinx…
